Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-14

Overview

MuseumKit is a platform for museums and historical societies to publish self-guided audio tours, deep-zoom exhibits, and other digital experiences. By using MuseumKit — whether as a museum administrator authoring content or as a visitor browsing it — you agree to these terms.

We're a small team building a young platform. We'll always tell you what we're changing and when, and we'll work in good faith to keep your museum's site running.

Your content

Tours, stops, photographs, audio, exhibit content, and any other material you upload to your tenant remain yours. We host it and serve it on your behalf; we don't claim ownership or reuse it for other purposes. You can export your content at any time and delete it at any time.

You're responsible for having the right to publish what you upload. If you upload content you don't own (third-party photographs, copyrighted audio without licensing, etc.) and the rights holder objects, we'll work with you to take it down promptly.

Acceptable use

Don't use MuseumKit to host illegal content, attempt to compromise other tenants' data, abuse the platform to harass other users, or run automated scrapers against other tenants' sites. We may suspend an account for violation; when we can, we'll reach out first to give you a chance to address the issue.

Service availability

MuseumKit is currently a pre-pilot platform; we don't promise specific uptime guarantees yet. We aim for high availability on the consumer-facing tenant sites and we monitor errors continuously. We'll publish a real Service Level Agreement before the first paid pilot. Until then, we operate on commercially reasonable effort — meaning we work hard to keep things running, but we don't owe you credits for downtime.

Pricing + changes

Pricing scales with collection size and visitor traffic. We'll quote you directly; we don't maintain a self-serve checkout at this stage. If we change pricing for your account, we'll notify you at least 30 days in advance and you can choose to terminate without penalty before the new pricing takes effect.

Liability

MuseumKit is provided as-is. We'll do our best, but we can't be responsible for indirect damages (lost visitors, missed opportunities, etc.) arising from platform issues. To the extent your jurisdiction allows, our total liability for any single dispute is capped at what you've paid us in the most recent 12 months (which, for pre-pilot accounts, is zero).

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the platform matures. Material changes (price shifts, scope shifts, liability shifts) get a 30-day advance notification to museum administrators by email. Minor edits — typos, formatting, clarifying language — go in immediately and bump the "Last updated" date above.
